Dear Suppliers,

Recently we have seen an increased interest in the transfer of Guarantees of Origin (GO) Certificates from Ireland to Northern Ireland, so that Northern Ireland suppliers can use them in their Fuel Mix Disclosure.

As part of this renewed interest, SEMO have completed a review and update of the SEMOpx Business Process “"Business Process for Transferring GOs”".

The latest version of this process now includes specific sections on the transfer and cancellation of GOs from Ireland to Northern Ireland:

Business Process

Sections Updated

Business Process for Transferring GOs

4.2, 4.3, 4.4

We would request that suppliers familiarise themselves with the updated business process.

Please note that in addition to the timelines required by SEMO to process the GO transfer from Ireland to Northern Ireland, Ofgem are required to recognise the request and aim to complete this within ten working days. This timeline should be taken into consideration when requesting these types of transfers.

With regards to Brexit, based on the latest information SEMO has, and as outlined in our market message, Northern Ireland will continue to accept EU-issued GOs after the end of the end of the withdrawal of the UK from the European Union, this is subject to a review by the UK during 2021.

For any further questions, please contact  guaranteesoforigin@sem-o.com.

Kind Regards,

SEMO
